As I pen these words, a beloved figure in the diving business is preparing her departure. Cathy Lesh is retiring from her longstanding ownership of the Dive Outpost of Live Oak, Florida, to the next generation. She leaves behind a tremendous legacy of sincere love and passion for one of the most technically challenging activities in the world today: cave diving. Cathy and her husband purchased Dive Outpost 24 years ago, and when her husband passed away in 2000, she was determined to continue what they both started. On November 8, 2019, three British Columbians and a heritage steam tug were awarded the Maritime Museum of BC’s Beaver Medal. The ceremony took place at Government House in Victoria. The Honourable Lieutenant Governor Janet Austin, the Museum’s Honorary Patron, dropped by briefly to congratulate the Beaver recipients, but laryngitis prevented her from making the formal presentations. Two weeks ago, the Category 5 Hurricane Dorian made landfall in The Bahamas; the strongest to ever hit the region. The impact has been devastating. There are now over 50 confirmed fatalities, with 1,300 people still listed as missing.  When Hurricane Dorian hit the north of The Bahamas on 1st September 2019, wind speed reached up to 185mph (298km/h). The main towns were flooded by storm surges, metres above normal sea levels. To celebrate PADI women’s dive day 2019 Divetech have once again brought together women hand in hand, breaking their own World Record!  In July 2018, 86 women created a human chain along a 300ft line at Divetech’s shore diving location, this year the ladies smashed their own record with 107 female divers! Although the event was organized by Divetech support was received from many of the other dive centres in Grand Cayman who donated, staff, tanks and equipment to ensure the record could be broken.
