A new ocean-based sci-fi thriller is aiming to blend environmental collapse, deep-sea mystery, and first-contact suspense into a cinematic underwater adventure for readers who love high-concept thrillers.
Author and filmmaker Michael Harlow has announced that his upcoming novel, Blue Planet – Red Tide, is now available for pre-order through Amazon. According to a press announcement from PRLog, the novel combines marine science, military suspense, environmental themes, and science fiction against the backdrop of Earth’s oceans.
Harlow, who is also a PADI Scuba Divemaster and licensed 100 Ton Master with Sailing Endorsement, draws heavily from his own experience on and beneath the water. The story follows marine scientist Trevor Steel and oceanographer-meteorologist Dr. Kayla Torres as unexplained oceanic events begin unfolding around the world.
The premise centres on an advanced alien civilisation hidden beneath Earth’s oceans for thousands of years. As pollution, plastic waste, deep-sea mining, shark finning, and ecosystem destruction intensify, the civilisation decides humanity has crossed a dangerous line. The result is a growing global crisis involving disappearing ships, spreading red tides, military escalation, and mounting panic along coastlines worldwide.
Rather than presenting a traditional alien invasion story, the novel positions the ocean itself as both battleground and warning system. Harlow said the project was inspired by his concern for the state of the marine environment and his desire to create a story that entertains while also encouraging readers to think about ocean conservation.
The book is being pitched toward readers who enjoy the style of techno-thrillers and environmental suspense popularised by authors such as Michael Crichton, Clive Cussler, and James Rollins.
With ocean conservation continuing to become a major talking point across both science and diving communities, Blue Planet – Red Tide arrives at a time when fictional stories tied to marine environmental issues may resonate strongly with divers and ocean enthusiasts alike.
The novel is currently available for pre-order via Amazon, with additional release information expected in the coming months.
