A new interactive map designed to help people discover snorkelling locations across the UK has been launched by the team behind Snorkelling Britain, creating what its creators describe as a one-stop resource for snorkellers of all experience levels.
According to the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC), the new platform was developed by Emma and Gordon Taylor of Snorkelology and brings together snorkelling sites from their guidebook alongside an expanding collection of additional locations around the British coastline.
The interactive map, available through Snorkelology, also includes the full network of Scottish Snorkel Trails created by the Scottish Wildlife Trust, as well as information on snorkel training providers across the UK.
Gordon Taylor, who has spent more than 25 years exploring Britain’s coastline through snorkelling, said the project was created to help make the activity more accessible while improving safety and training awareness.
“We want to bridge the gap between finding a snorkel site and getting the right support, ensuring anyone can find the training they need to get started safely,” he said.
BSAC says the launch comes at a time of growing interest in snorkelling, with around one third of new enquiries received by the organisation now relating to snorkelling activities.
BSAC Chief Executive Mary Tetley said the map highlights the wide variety of snorkelling opportunities available around the UK coast.
“Snorkelling is a great family activity and helps to make the UK coastline accessible to people of all ages,” she said. “By using this map, snorkellers can easily filter and search for sites, and then use the information to safely plan their next snorkelling adventure.”
BSAC is also encouraging clubs, snorkel centres and members to contribute additional sites to the map if they are not already included.
The new resource can be explored via Snorkelology’s interactive map at https://www.snorkelology.co.uk/map.
