A fishing vessel broke apart and has drifted onto the rocky shoreline near Bay de Verde after taking on water in Conception Bay.
On Saturday, October 17, 2026, the fishing boat FV High Roller III ran aground along the rocky coast near Bay de Verde, Newfoundland and Labrador. Fortunately, a prompt emergency response ensured that all crew members aboard were safely evacuated, and no injuries occurred as a result of the grounding.
The vessel initially began taking on water under unknown circumstances while navigating Trinity Bay. In response, the Canadian Coast Guard ship John Cabot arrived on scene, supplied dewatering pumps to manage the flooding, and took the boat in tow toward Harbour Grace. However, as the pumps began to fail and maritime weather conditions rapidly deteriorated, rescuers made the decision to sever the towline after securely transferring the crew onto the John Cabot. Unmanned and adrift at the mercy of severe winds and heavy wave action, the vessel was driven onto the shoreline rocks near Bay de Verde, where the heavy surf ultimately broke it apart. Search and rescue operations subsequently transitioned to environmental monitoring and salvage oversight, involving Coast Guard units alongside the commercial tug Nauti Buoy.
