Collectors of historic diving equipment will have a rare opportunity later this month as Nation’s Attic launches its 2026 “Diving Into History + More” auction, a specialist online sale featuring museum-quality diving helmets, commercial diving equipment, maritime artefacts, and provenance-rich memorabilia from across diving history.
The auction is now open for online bidding ahead of a live online event scheduled for May 30, 2026. According to the company, this year’s catalogue has been curated specifically for the global diving community, historians, maritime museums, and serious collectors seeking rare and historically significant equipment.
Among the standout pieces are 19th and 20th-century diving helmets spanning the evolution of hard-hat diving technology, from early copper-and-brass designs through to later commercial and experimental models. Featured manufacturers include A.J. Morse & Son, A. Schrader’s Son, DESCO, Miller Dunn, Alfred Hale, and John Date.
The auction also includes equipment attributed to notable names such as Joe Savoie, Gorski, and Ratcliffe, alongside several examples of the iconic U.S. Navy Mark V helmet. Nation’s Attic says a number of the helmets feature unusual configurations and one-off variants that rarely appear on the open market, adding further interest for advanced collectors and institutions.
One of the more historically significant elements of the sale comes from The Ocean Corporation collection. Founded in Houston in 1969, The Ocean Corporation became one of the best-known commercial diving schools in the United States, training generations of professional divers for offshore and industrial work. Several helmets and artefacts from the school are included in the auction, providing documented provenance that reflects the development of commercial diving education and operational practices over the past five decades.
Beyond helmets, the auction includes a broad selection of operational diving equipment and archival material that helps paint a wider picture of working diver life through different eras. Lots include original dive dresses and suits, heavy lead boots, weight systems, rare underwater diving knives, manufacturer catalogues, technical documentation, period photography, and other historical memorabilia.
While diving history forms the centrepiece of the event, the “+ More” section expands into other collectible categories, all offered with no reserve pricing. These lots include historical Japanese swords, U.S. coinage, designer handbags, and investment-grade collectibles.
Nation’s Attic says the auction has been designed to accommodate bidders worldwide through its online platform, which includes live and timed bidding, high-resolution photography, detailed condition reports, and international shipping options. The company has specialised in antique diving equipment and maritime historical artefacts for more than 21 years and has become well known within the diving collector community for specialist auctions focused on historic helmets and equipment.
