The Maldives liveaboard Emperor Explorer has been lost following a fire onboard on Saturday, 9 May, according to an official statement released by Emperor Divers.
The operator confirmed that all guests and crew members were safely evacuated from the vessel, with no injuries reported. Those onboard have since been transferred to sister ship Emperor Serenity, where they are being cared for.
In a statement issued by the company, Alexander Bryant said the immediate focus remains on supporting everyone affected by the incident.
“Our priority is the safety and wellbeing of everyone on board, and we are profoundly grateful that all guests and crew are safe and well,” Bryant said.
“We are now focused on supporting our guests and crew.”
At the time of writing, no further details have been released regarding the cause of the fire or the exact circumstances surrounding the loss of the vessel.
Emperor Explorer has operated for many years as part of the Emperor Maldives fleet, offering liveaboard diving itineraries throughout the Maldives. The vessel was well known within the regional diving industry and regularly hosted international guests exploring sites across the archipelago.
The incident comes during a period of transition for the fleet, with the company previously announcing the introduction of Emperor Explorer II as a future addition to its Maldives operations.
No official statements from Maldivian authorities or emergency services had been publicly released at the time this article was published.
