The XR inflator, sold through Mares and made by an outsider manufacturer, FERPLAST, has found a quality issue on this inflator mounted on the XR line aircells. Divers are urged to quit utilizing the models listed below, and volunteer to return this unit to Mares for repair. In certain circumstances the deflation button could come unscrewed, resulting in loss of the seal at the mouthpiece. This in turn, could cause a loss of buoyancy that may potentially lead to an accident and/or serious injury or death. On December 10, 2018, Bruce Justinen and the Seasoft diving company were issued a “Notice of Penalty” from the State of Washington, Ecology Department for allegedly dumping hazardous waste, which contained lead and arsenic down a toilet, from there this waste travelled to a storm drain and came to rest in the ground. This incident took place in Lacey, Washington USA.  The fine is $197,000 US and Seasoft has 30 days to pay the it or appeal it to the state’s Pollution Control Hearings Board. Shearwater Research is voluntarily issuing a recall for yellow wireless transmitters. We discovered yellow transmitters may have the same transmission interval as the one found in grey transmitters. When transmitters of both colors are used by the same diver in the same dive, signal interference could be produced between transmitters causing dropped signals and loss of communications. Although the chance of this occurring is small, the potential is there.
