Huish Outdoors has issued a voluntary recall of approximately 7,200 Hollis 200LX Second Stage scuba regulators in the United States, with an additional 370 units sold in Canada, after identifying a defect that could lead to a catastrophic regulator failure underwater.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the regulator inlet tube can crack and break, potentially interrupting a diver’s breathing gas supply and creating a risk of serious injury or death from drowning.
The recall, announced on 16 July 2026, follows 17 reported incidents involving broken inlet tubes. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
Which regulators are affected?
The recall applies only to Hollis 200LX Second Stage regulators manufactured in Taiwan and sold between May 2017 and February 2026.
Affected regulators feature:
- Black and red metal and plastic construction
- “200LX” and “Hollis” engraved on the top of the second stage
- Serial number located beneath the mouthpiece
The following serial number ranges are included in the recall:
- C3753 – C77735
- S73202 – S84427
- HA00001 – HA14873
- LX001698 – LX009896
The regulators retailed for approximately US$330.
Stop using affected regulators immediately
Divers who own an affected regulator are being advised to stop using it immediately.
Unlike some recalls that involve replacement products, Huish Outdoors is offering a free repair through its worldwide network of authorised Hollis dealers. Owners may also request a prepaid shipping label from the company if they cannot visit a dealer.
Why this matters
Second stage regulators are the final component that delivers breathing gas to the diver. A structural failure of the inlet tube can prevent the regulator from functioning correctly, potentially resulting in an immediate loss of breathing gas underwater.
Although divers are trained to share air with a buddy or switch to an alternate air source during emergencies, any unexpected regulator failure significantly increases risk – particularly during deeper dives, technical dives, overhead environments, or situations where a diver is separated from their buddy.
The absence of reported injuries suggests the failures were either detected before dives or successfully managed underwater, but the potential consequences prompted the voluntary recall.

Owners can verify their serial number beneath the mouthpiece and compare it with the recalled ranges.
