A cross-border safety recall has been issued for Scubapro diving equipment, with regulators in both Canada and the United States warning of a fault that could prevent divers from safely ascending.
Notices published by Health Canada and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) confirm that SCUBAPRO Monorail Weight Pockets are being recalled due to a defect in the weight-release mechanism.
Fault in emergency weight release system
According to both agencies, the issue lies with the D-ring handle used to release the weight pocket from a buoyancy compensator device (BCD).
If the handle detaches during use, the diver may be unable to remove the weight pocket in an emergency. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) states that this failure could prevent a diver from achieving positive buoyancy, creating a risk of serious injury or death from drowning.
Products included in the recall
The recall applies to Scubapro Monorail Weight Pocket systems, designed for use with compatible BCDs.
Affected units were:
- Sold in standard and mini sizes
- Available in multiple colours, including black, blue, green, orange, pink, teal, white, and yellow
- Distributed between November 2025 and February 2026
Regulators report that approximately 2,800 units were sold in the United States, with a further 40 units sold in Canada.
Reported incidents
Authorities have confirmed:
- Two incidents in the United States where the handle detached during use
- No injuries reported in either country
Guidance for divers
Both Health Canada and the CPSC advise that affected products should not be used.
Divers in possession of the recalled weight pockets are instructed to contact Scubapro to arrange a free repair, either through an authorised dealer or by returning the product to the manufacturer.
