Sugar Land Dive Center has announced the launch of a new split Instructor Development Course (IDC) that allows candidates to complete their professional dive training across Texas and Cozumel, blending local instruction with warm-water, destination-based teaching experience.
The program offers a flexible pathway for divers working toward PADI Instructor certification, enabling them to begin academic development and skill preparation at Sugar Land’s Texas facility before completing open water training and evaluation dives in the Caribbean waters of Cozumel.
According to the dive centre, the split format is designed to accommodate candidates who want to balance professional training with work and family commitments, while still benefiting from the experience of teaching in a world-class dive destination. Participants also have the option to complete the full IDC in Cozumel if they prefer a single-location course.
The Cozumel portion of the program is conducted in collaboration with established local dive operations, giving instructor candidates exposure to drift diving, boat-based logistics, and real-world student scenarios in one of the Caribbean’s most popular training environments. Clear water, consistent conditions, and healthy reefs make Cozumel a practical setting for refining instructor-level skills.
Sugar Land Dive Center says the initiative reflects a broader shift in professional dive education toward modular, lifestyle-friendly training models. By combining structured classroom learning with immersive destination diving, the split IDC aims to prepare candidates not only to pass their Instructor Examination, but to step confidently into teaching roles immediately after certification.
Dates, pricing, prerequisites, and course structure details are available directly through Sugar Land Dive Center’s official Instructor Development Course information, where interested candidates can explore upcoming schedules and registration options.
