A woman has died following a diving incident at Fly Point, Nelson Bay, in what authorities are describing as a suspected drowning in the Hunter Region of New South Wales.
According to a report from the NSW Police Force, emergency services were called to the popular shore diving site at around 11 am on Saturday 8 November 2025, after the woman, believed to be in her 50s, was pulled unconscious from the water.
Despite immediate efforts by bystanders and paramedics to revive her, the diver was pronounced deceased after being transported to Tomaree Community Hospital. Police confirmed that a report will be prepared for the Coroner as investigations continue.
The incident took place at Fly Point, a well-known dive site within the Port Stephens–Great Lakes Marine Park, often praised for its calm conditions, rich marine life, and accessibility to divers of varying experience levels.
Local news outlet 7NEWS reported that officers from the Marine Area Command and Raptor Squad were among those who responded at the scene. The diver’s identity has not yet been formally released, pending notification of family.
Authorities have not yet provided details on the circumstances leading to the incident, or whether equipment failure or medical factors may have played a role.
