The Underwater Awards Australasia 2025, one of the region’s premier underwater imaging competitions, is set to make waves once again as it opens for submissions on June 1st, 2025. This annual contest celebrates the extraordinary marine life and seascapes of Australasia through the lenses of the world’s most talented underwater photographers and videographers.
A collaborative effort between Underwater Australasia, leading global resource DivePhotoGuide, and underwater imaging equipment distributor UW Images, the competition highlights the very best in oceanic storytelling from across the region.
This year’s winners will be unveiled at the Go Diving Show ANZ in September 2025, the Australian counterpart to the UK’s renowned Go Diving Show. The awards ceremony is expected to draw significant attention from both the diving and imaging communities.
A stellar panel of international judges has been assembled to evaluate the submissions. Photo entries will be reviewed by Tobias Friedrich, Jayne Jenkins, Matty Smith, Tanya Houppermans, Scott Portelli, and William Tan, while Philip Hamilton and Ross Long will judge the video categories.
Photographers and filmmakers will compete across nine categories, with each category winner vying for the coveted “Best of Show” title. With over A$70,000 in prizes up for grabs, including luxury dive travel packages and cutting-edge underwater imaging gear, the competition is expected to attract submissions from across the globe.
“More than just a contest, this is a celebration of storytelling beneath the waves,” said a spokesperson for the organisers. “We encourage creators to capture the magic, fragility, and wonder of the Australasian marine environment.”
Entries must showcase imagery from the Australasian region, and are open to all underwater shooters—amateur or professional—who are passionate about the marine world. The entry fee is US$10 per image or video, and all winners will be published on UnderwaterCompetition.com and featured by international media partners.
