In late March, two young Caymanian students completed an internship program at Cayman Brac Beach Resort, where they gained valuable experience in the tourism sector and even began working towards their scuba diving certification.
Litzy Walton and Vasean Beput, students at Layman E Scott High School in Cayman Brac, commenced the program on October 5, 2023. They spent two days a week rotating through various departments including front office, housekeeping, food and beverage, and maintenance. The students acquired firsthand insights into the commitment needed to deliver an exceptional guest experience. Walton shared, “It was challenging, but I gained invaluable experience that will benefit me in my future studies and career.” She plans to further her education at the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) for a degree in hospitality management.
A standout moment of their internship was obtaining their Open Water Certification from Reef Divers. This achievement enabled them to dive alongside resort guests and gather valuable experience for potential future careers as Dive Professionals.
Caroline Brazington, Resort Manager of Cayman Brac Beach Resort, stated, “We believe in providing opportunities for the next generation to acquire skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.” She expressed delight in introducing the internship program and offering Litzy and Vasean exposure to the resort’s operations. Praising the students for their dedication, she wished them success in their future endeavors.
Cayman Brac Beach Resort is dedicated to developing opportunities for youth in the local community. The resort internship program is one way to empower students, teach them skills for success, and inspire the next generation of leaders in the Cayman Islands tourism industry.
