A new breed of diving adventure (just for women!)
Catherine Edsell FRGS, expedition leader, Reef Check Trainer, PADI Divemaster and yoga teacher from Cathadventure has teamed up with Ida Vincent, fellow expedition leader, Marine Biologist and PADI Divemaster to bring you a new sub-aqua adventure on the reefs of Mangili, Southwest Madagascar 1-10 March 2019
Coral reef conservation has always been a huge passion of theirs, and whilst surveying the reefs of the Maldives last summer, they had an idea. Catherine already leads all-women adventures in the Namibian wilderness tracking desert elephants, so they thought, why not extend the model to the underwater realm? This will be an all female team, contributing to existing monitoring efforts around the globe, whilst enjoying the sisterhood of like-minded women. What could be better!?
The name ‘Bluemoon’ is actually a species of parrotfish endemic to the region, but it also conjures up the idea of something unique, once in a lifetime, and also our cyclical connection with the moon and the tides. Catherine and Ida both acknowledge the need for a balance of work and play, relaxation and conservation, activity and calm, so have dreamed up an expedition that includes all of this! Early morning yoga on the beach to stretch your body and clear your mind, then into the classroom to study coral reef ecology and be guided through the Reef Check training course, after which you will be a certified eco diver, qualified to monitor reefs anywhere in the Indo Pacific. We’ll dive twice a day, first in training then completing coral reef surveys, feeding our discoveries back into a worldwide database of coral reef research, then kick back and enjoy glorious sunsets, and lots of laughter! There will be excursions to baobab forests, and time to relax on the beach. Sound good?

The cost of this adventure, including all food, accommodation, transfers, excursions, yoga, diving and Reef Check instruction is £1,690 (USD 2,350) and is ABTOT bonded. It does not include international or domestic flights or personal travel insurance. You will need to be a qualified open water diver (PADI or equivalent), and have good buoyancy skills.
