Tobermory is a small community located at the northern tip of the Bruce Peninsula in the municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula, approximately 300 kilometres (190 miles) northwest of Toronto, the capital of Ontario.
Many city dwellers think of Ontario’s cottage country northeast of Toronto as rather remote. But in 1956, it was much more so. The area was sparsely populated and roads were smaller and fewer in number.
