A 27-year-old woman has been hospitalised in serious condition following a scuba diving accident in Playa Blanca on the Spanish island of Lanzarote.
The incident occurred on Thursday, August 27, in the municipality of Yaiza, according to information released by the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES 112).
Emergency services received an alert at 3:51pm reporting that a person required medical assistance following a diving accident after completing an immersion in the Playa Blanca area.
Diver Stabilised Before Hospital Transfer
Following the emergency call, a coordinator from the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC) dispatched a medicalised ambulance to the scene.
Medical personnel assessed and treated the 27-year-old woman, who was initially displaying symptoms described by the emergency service as ahogamiento incompleto, commonly referred to as non-fatal drowning.
The diver was stabilised at the scene before being transported in serious condition by medicalised ambulance to Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa in Arrecife.
Officers from the Guardia Civil and Local Police were also deployed and assisted the emergency response while carrying out the appropriate procedures relating to the incident.
Cause of Diving Accident Remains Unknown
No details have been released about what happened during the dive or the circumstances that led to the woman requiring emergency medical assistance.
The official statement does not identify the dive site beyond the Playa Blanca area, nor does it provide information about the diver’s nationality, experience level, equipment or the profile of the dive.
