Underwater photographers and filmmakers using the Canon EOS R5 C now have a new option for taking the powerful hybrid cinema camera beneath the surface.
Italian manufacturer Isotta has released a dedicated underwater housing for the Canon EOS R5 C, bringing its signature red anodized aluminium construction and full-control design to one of Canon’s most capable video and photography platforms.
The housing allows shooters to access the majority of the camera’s essential controls underwater, making it possible to capture high-resolution stills and cinema-grade video in demanding marine environments.
Reporting from underwater imaging publication DivePhotoGuide confirms that the system is built from corrosion-resistant anodized aluminium and follows the robust mechanical design that has become standard across Isotta’s range of professional underwater housings.
Designed for full camera control underwater
The housing provides access to key camera functions including the shutter lever, AF-ON control, multi-function buttons, movie recording lever, and the primary dials and joystick used to control camera settings.
Controls are positioned to remain reachable while holding the integrated ergonomic handles, allowing divers to operate the camera comfortably even while wearing gloves or working in colder environments.
The system also incorporates several safety and reliability features commonly used in professional underwater housings. Double O-ring seals protect buttons and removable components, while a built-in moisture sensor provides a visual warning if water enters the housing.
A one-handed opening mechanism allows divers to quickly access the camera, and the fully detachable rear section makes it easier to install or remove the camera body before and after dives.
Built for modular underwater systems
The housing is designed to integrate with a wide range of underwater imaging accessories.
Two fibre-optic ports are included for connecting external strobes, while optional Nikonos-style N5 or S6 bulkhead connectors can be configured depending on the photographer’s preferred lighting setup.
Additional accessory connections are available through multiple ports built into the housing, including three M16 ports and an M24 port. These can be used for accessories such as vacuum systems, external monitors, or additional bulkheads.
Like other models in the Isotta range, the R5 C housing uses the company’s removable B120 bayonet port system. This allows underwater photographers to pair the housing with a range of dome and flat ports depending on the lens being used.
Other construction details include stainless steel locking pins, engraved aluminium control labels that mirror the camera’s layout, and rubber feet that allow the housing to rest securely on deck when preparing a camera rig.
A housing built for a hybrid cinema camera
The Canon EOS R5 C has become a popular option for underwater filmmakers thanks to its hybrid design, combining high-resolution still photography with professional cinema features.
The full-frame camera offers a 45-megapixel sensor and advanced video capabilities including uncropped 8K recording at 60 frames per second and high-frame-rate 4K capture.
By pairing the camera with a dedicated underwater housing, photographers and filmmakers can maintain full access to these features while shooting beneath the surface.
Pricing and availability
Industry listings suggest the Isotta housing for the Canon EOS R5 C will retail for approximately $4,110 through specialist underwater imaging retailers.
As with most professional housings, users can customise the system with optional accessories such as flash triggers, vacuum leak detection systems, and different bulkhead configurations depending on the lighting and monitoring equipment used in their underwater setups.
