Wayne B. Brown, Chief Executive Officer of Aggressor Adventures and a prominent figure in the global dive travel sector, has died at the age of 65 following a private battle with bile duct cancer.
The company confirmed his passing in a public statement shared through the official Aggressor Adventures announcement, noting that Brown had fought the illness for approximately 19 months before entering into rest earlier this week surrounded by family and close friends.
Aggressor described Brown as a leader whose passion for travel, diving, and exploration helped shape the company’s global identity, adding that his vision and commitment to service helped build the foundation of the adventure travel brand recognised by divers around the world.
From military service to entrepreneurship
Brown was born on January 30, 1961, in Jacksonville, Florida, and grew up on a small rural farm where he developed the self-reliance and work ethic that later defined his business career.
After high school he joined the United States Air Force, serving for eight years as a medic and reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant before leaving the military to pursue opportunities in the private sector.
His post-service career began with Taco Bell corporate before he became a franchise owner, eventually building and operating more than 60 restaurants before selling the business in 2006. Entering the dive travel industry
Brown’s connection to the dive industry began as a family activity. What started as a way to spend time with his children soon developed into a deeper interest in scuba diving and adventure travel.
After experiencing a trip aboard an Aggressor liveaboard as a guest, Brown learned that the fleet was available for purchase and acquired the company in 2007. From that point forward, he focused on expanding the brand and strengthening its reputation for small-group dive travel.
Under his leadership the business evolved beyond its original liveaboard fleet into a broader adventure travel company offering river cruises, safari lodges, and additional land-based experiences under the Aggressor Adventures umbrella.
