Statement according to Neil Burgess (Shipwreck Preservation Society of Newfoundland & Labrador) “hard to see how this wreck will survive a stormy winter and remain intact.”
In the early hours of February 15, 2025, the cargo vessel MSC Baltic III experienced a power failure and grounded off the west coast of Newfoundland near Lark Harbour. Authorities have confirmed that no pollution has been detected beyond the ship at this time.
The MSC Baltic lll, located in Cedar Cove on Newfoundland’s west coast, has undergone noticeable deterioration over the past few weeks as severe winter storms rage in the area. If the vessel remains intact through the winter, salvage operations are expected to commence in the spring to undertake its removal.
