First, as students, the purpose of every single piece of gear was explained to us, and we understood that we simply cannot do without most of them.
Then, as freshly certified divers, we were all told to buy our equipment as soon as possible, because it would help us on our path from novice to expert, or at least boost our confidence to a break-even point.
And finally, we found ourselves dealing with all types of gear, if only through knowledge gained from a magazine, website, or blog, either because we discover something new every time we rent it, or because by buying it, we form a stronger bond with it.
But amongst all our gear, can we pinpoint the single most important piece for the new diver that we have become? And are we sure that this piece of equipment is not still the most important one, even now that we have been certified for a while and have a few dives under our belt?
Whether this is a story of a predestined star or an unexpected underdog, and whether it’s about overcoming real problems or simply boosting skills and unlocking potential for our diving excellence, this is a story that deserves to be told because it can change many diving careers.
