A 49-year-old woman is in critical condition following a suspected heart attack while scuba diving near Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote, on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. near the Muelle de La Tiñosa, in the municipality of Tías. According to emergency services, the diver suffered cardiac arrest during the dive, prompting an immediate response from local rescue teams.
Emergency services were alerted after the woman reportedly lost consciousness and required cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at the scene. A nurse provided tele-assistance over the phone, guiding responders through life-saving procedures until medical personnel arrived.
Paramedics were able to stabilise the woman and confirmed she had regained a pulse. She was then transported in critical condition by an advanced life support ambulance to the José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife.
At this stage, the cause of the cardiac event remains unclear. Authorities have not confirmed whether the incident was triggered by a pre-existing medical condition, stress related to the dive, or another factor.
The woman remains under medical supervision, and no further updates on her condition have been released.
