Old Town is the beating heart of Yellowknife and one of the most diverse, historic, and offbeat neighbourhoods in Canada. The Precambrian Shield meets the Great Slave Lake here. Around 80 years ago, gold seekers established what would become the largest settlement in the North. Today, the neighbourhood is a fascinating mix of log cabins, mansions, houseboats, float planes, art galleries, famous restaurants, monuments, and more. The Northern Frontier Visitor Center sells walking tours of Old Town’s historic sites.
Dive Report
Jeremy reported that the dives were not that deep..maybe 20 feet and it was an up and down dive, as the divers removed the “junk” from the bottom. Water temperature was 18 degrees. The dock is very busy in that is used by commercial fishers, as well as house boaters who live in the bay. He reported that they ended up with a full truck of junk and dropped off 420kg/924 lbs at the dump.

Jeremy is a career military man with the Canadian Armed Forces, a Scuba Instructor and hails originally from New Brunswick. He calls Yellowknife home for the last nine years and on his days off, dives for “garbage” to clean up the rivers near Yellowknife.
