Val Ranetkins passed away on August 3rd 2021.
We’ve recently learned about the death of a great individual. Val Ranetkins may be responsible for some of the technology you use today if you’re an underwater shooter. Val was a great engineer and a modest mentor. He was a wonderful gentleman who was constantly concerned with providing excellent tools and information to the next generation.
He founded Aquatica and Amphibico and collaborated with Anthony Lenzo to develop the Lenzo iPhone housing. He had 35 years of expertise building underwater photography equipment, including the original Aquatica housing, the Sony HD Cam, and the Super Marine Pac, which he created and manufactured for Sony Japan. He has created and built over 30 various housings, including underwater push button controllers, lens bayonet mounts, and swing-arms for iPhone housings.
