Sir David Attenborough to Narrate BBC’s Upcoming Blue Planet III
Sir David Attenborough is set to return to BBC screens later this year to present Blue Planet III, marking a quarter-century since the groundbreaking natural history franchise first premiered in 2001. Now 100, the celebrated broadcaster will lend his iconic voice to the six-part documentary following four years of intensive global filming.
The flagship series dives into five distinct marine ecosystems—including the deep sea, polar ecosystems, open ocean habitats, seasonal zones, and tropical waters. The sixth and final installment, titled “Future Seas,” focuses directly on the conservation outlook and challenges facing global marine life.
To capture previously unseen wildlife behaviors, the production team deployed cutting-edge filming equipment, including specialized mini-dome camera rigs, long-range splash drones, and autonomous deep-sea cameras capable of recording for extended periods. Beyond revealing new species and scientific breakthroughs, the show documents how marine organisms are responding to shifting environmental conditions.
The announcement follows the massive impact of 2017’s Blue Planet II, which spurred global awareness regarding ocean plastics. Blue Planet III is slated to broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later in 2026.
