Scuba Schools International (SSI) has unveiled a completely redesigned Enriched Air Nitrox program, giving divers a more comprehensive and practical approach to one of the world’s most popular scuba specialties.
Available immediately through the SSI Total Teaching System, the updated course has been developed to reflect modern diving practices while making Nitrox education more accessible and relevant for today’s recreational divers.
For many divers, Enriched Air Nitrox is the first specialty certification they pursue after earning their Open Water qualification. By using oxygen-enriched breathing gases, divers can reduce nitrogen absorption, potentially extend no-decompression limits, and shorten surface intervals between dives. These advantages have made Nitrox a standard offering on dive boats, liveaboards, and at dive centres around the world.
According to SSI, the revised program places a stronger emphasis on understanding gas management, oxygen exposure, dive planning, and real-world application. Students will learn not only how Nitrox affects the body and dive profiles, but also how to analyse breathing gas, calculate maximum operating depths, and correctly configure dive computers for enriched air diving.
The course continues to offer certification options for Enriched Air Nitrox 32% and Enriched Air Nitrox 40%, allowing divers to safely use oxygen-enriched gas mixtures containing up to 40 percent oxygen. SSI says the updated curriculum has been designed to help divers build confidence and competence while reinforcing safe diving practices.
One of the key features of the new program is its integration into SSI’s digital learning ecosystem. Students can access training materials through the MySSI platform, allowing them to study at their own pace before completing practical components with an SSI Training Center. The digital format also enables SSI to update content as diving technology and best practices continue to evolve.
Nitrox remains one of the most widely recognised specialty certifications in recreational diving because of its practical benefits for travelling divers. Whether exploring coral reefs, diving from liveaboards, or completing multiple dives over consecutive days, enriched air has become a valuable tool for maximising time underwater while maintaining conservative dive profiles.
SSI reports that the newly revised Enriched Air Nitrox program is now available worldwide in multiple languages, ensuring divers across its global network can access the updated training immediately.
