In a significant expansion of its Maldives operations, Emperor Divers has announced the launch of a brand-new flagship vessel, Emperor Explorer II, set to begin sailing in August 2026.
At 44 metres in length, the new liveaboard becomes the largest vessel Emperor has ever operated in the Maldives, signalling a clear investment in both capacity and premium guest experience.
Designed across four decks, Explorer II places a strong emphasis on space, comfort, and functionality. Large panoramic windows throughout the vessel are intended to maximise natural light while offering uninterrupted views of the surrounding Indian Ocean, creating a more open and immersive onboard atmosphere.
A New Flagship for the Maldives Fleet
Explorer II will primarily operate the well-established Best of Maldives itinerary, covering the iconic atolls of Malé, Ari, and Vaavu. These regions are widely regarded as some of the most biodiverse diving areas in the world, known for encounters with manta rays, whale sharks, reef sharks, and vast schools of pelagic fish.
The new vessel will take over as Emperor’s flagship in the region, while its predecessor, Emperor Explorer, is scheduled to continue operations until the end of May 2026.
Built for Divers and Comfort
Accommodation onboard has been designed to cater to a wide range of travellers, with a mix of upper deck and main deck suites alongside lower deck cabins. All rooms are fully air-conditioned and feature en-suite facilities, allowing flexibility for couples, groups, and solo divers.
Social and relaxation spaces are equally prioritised. Guests can move between an air-conditioned indoor lounge, shaded outdoor seating areas, and a spacious sun deck equipped with loungers and beanbags, offering ample room to unwind between dives or take in the Maldives’ renowned sunsets.
Diving Operations and Guest Experience
Diving from Explorer II will be supported by up to four experienced guides, with operations conducted from a dedicated 24-metre dhoni, a standard feature for high-end Maldivian liveaboards that enhances safety and efficiency.
The vessel also continues Emperor Divers’ “No Hidden Extras” approach, which includes complimentary Nitrox, as well as covering port fees, marine park charges, and fuel surcharges within the upfront price. This model has become a key differentiator in a market where additional costs can often accumulate.
Strategic Growth in a Competitive Market
The introduction of Explorer II reflects continued demand for premium liveaboard experiences in the Maldives, one of the world’s most competitive and sought-after dive destinations. By increasing both capacity and onboard quality, Emperor Divers appears to be positioning itself strongly within the upper tier of the market.
For divers seeking more information, full details on the vessel can be found on the Emperor Explorer II page, alongside the Best of Maldives itinerary and broader offerings via the Emperor Divers website.
As liveaboard demand continues to evolve, particularly in destinations like the Maldives where experience and comfort are increasingly intertwined, the launch of Explorer II is likely to attract strong interest from divers planning trips into 2026 and beyond.
