The British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) has revealed the full list of candidates standing in its 2026 Council election, with nine members competing for key leadership and governance roles across the organisation.
This year’s election will see two officer positions, Vice-Chair and Honorary Secretary, alongside three Council Member roles decided by the membership. One of the Council Member positions has become available following a recent resignation, increasing the number of open seats from two to three.
For the officer roles, both positions will be filled unopposed. Yasmine Thorn stands as the sole candidate for Vice-Chair, while Emma James is the only nominee for Honorary Secretary.
Competition is concentrated in the Council Member category, where seven candidates are contesting three available positions. Those standing include Carline Deal, Alexander Denny, Hywel Dyer, David George, Edward Haynes, Catherine Smith, and Hafiz Zainudeen.
BSAC confirmed that voting will open on 1 May and close at 7pm on 10 June, with eligible members receiving online voting details directly.
Ahead of the vote, members will also have the opportunity to hear directly from candidates during an online hustings event scheduled for 22 April. The session, hosted by BSAC Chair Andy Shenstone, is intended to give voters insight into each candidate’s priorities and allow for questions.
The announcement marks the formal start of the election process, with the outcome set to shape the direction of one of the world’s longest-established diving organisations over the coming term.
