Ocean Education International has announced the launch of its new ECO PRO Trainer Program, an initiative designed to create a global network of sustainability leaders within the dive and marine tourism industry.
The new program builds on Ocean Education International’s established ECO PRO sustainable dive tourism curriculum by enabling experienced dive professionals to become certified trainers. These trainers will be qualified to deliver sustainability education within their own organisations, regions, and professional networks, helping to scale best practice across the industry.
Participants selected for the ECO PRO Trainer Program are typically senior dive professionals, educators, and industry leaders. Through the program, they receive advanced instruction not only in sustainability principles, but also in teaching methodology and leadership skills, allowing them to effectively train others. Once certified, ECO PRO Trainers are authorised to deliver Ocean Education International’s sustainability courses to dive centres, resorts, liveaboards, and educational institutions.
At the heart of the ECO PRO framework is the triple bottom line approach to sustainable dive tourism, focusing on environmental protection, community well-being, and long-term economic viability. The curriculum is designed to help dive operators reduce environmental impact, strengthen connections with local communities, and improve the quality and value of diver experiences through meaningful conservation-focused engagement.
The launch of the Trainer Program comes as sustainability education continues to gain importance within the global dive industry. Many professionals are now seeking training that goes beyond traditional dive skills, incorporating marine ecology, conservation interpretation, and responsible tourism practices. Ocean Education International positions the ECO PRO Trainer Program as a practical response to this growing demand.
The organisation has recently expanded its broader educational offering, including updated digital resources and learning materials, with the aim of making sustainability training more accessible to dive professionals worldwide. These tools are intended to support operators of all sizes in embedding ocean stewardship into daily operations and guest interactions.
As dive tourism faces increasing environmental pressures, initiatives such as the ECO PRO Trainer Program aim to empower professionals to become advocates for positive change. By multiplying the reach of sustainability education through certified trainers, Ocean Education International hopes to strengthen the industry’s role in protecting marine ecosystems while supporting resilient coastal communities.
