Two divers tragically lost their lives while exploring a wreck near Żonqor, Marsascala in Malta on Saturday morning.
According to The Times of Malta, the police were alerted to the situation at 10:30 am.
Reports indicate that the two divers, both from Poland, were brought to shore by an Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) rescue boat, where medical teams were ready to assist.
According to sources, the divers were part of a diving school group exploring Le Polynesien, a World War I wreck located at a depth of 50 meters, when the incident occurred.
The trouble began when one of the divers, a 45-year-old, encountered a problem at depth. The other diver, aged 48, attempted to assist his colleague. During their ascent, they skipped necessary decompression stops, which led to the emergency.
Both divers were transported by ambulance to Mater Dei Hospital. Sadly, one was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, and the other succumbed to his injuries later.
