Sophie Heptonstall Appointed New Head of Diving and Training at BSAC

BSAC is pleased to announce the appointment of Sophie Heptonstall as the new Head of Diving and Training at BSAC. This pivotal role is designed to bolster BSAC’s strategic vision of ensuring accessible diving and training opportunities for all, tailored to individual preferences while fostering a sense of community within BSAC.

Sophie, hailing from Cheshire, brings a wealth of experience to her new position. Having been actively involved in scuba diving since the age of 12 and currently a member of Chester Sub Aqua Club, Sophie’s journey in the underwater world has been marked by numerous impactful roles and initiatives. Her background in senior marketing within the automotive industry, coupled with her extensive involvement in BSAC, positions her uniquely to lead the development and delivery of training and diving/snorkeling support services.

Expressing her enthusiasm for her new role, Sophie stated, “I’m really excited to be stepping into the role of Head of Diving and Training at such an important time for BSAC. Using my skills to help put our strategy into action is something I’m genuinely looking forward to. Being a member of BSAC for a long time, I have a real passion for the organization and I’m confident I can make a big impact.”

Sophie’s tenure in various leadership positions within BSAC underscores her commitment to advancing the organization’s mission. From her role as National Instructor Chief Examiner to her contributions as BSAC National Diving Officer and Technical Group lead, Sophie has consistently championed initiatives aimed at enhancing member engagement, improving qualifications, and enriching the diving experience for enthusiasts of all levels.

BSAC CEO, Mary Tetley, emphasized the significance of Sophie’s appointment, stating, “The role of Head of Diving and Training holds significant importance within BSAC, as it involves enhancing our training and diving/snorkeling support services to expand BSAC’s reach. Sophie Heptonstall will officially assume her new role on March 18th. Additionally, she will be available to meet with fellow diving enthusiasts at the Go Diving Show on Saturday, March 2nd, at the BSAC stand, providing an opportunity for members to connect with her directly and discuss their shared passion for diving.
