Nations Attic Auction December 2022

Nation’s Attic Inc. is conducting an online-only auction on Saturday, December 10th, 2022, of historic diving helmets and related equipment! The auction will be an online-only event featured on LiveAuctioneers.com, and BidSquare.com.

135 lots of diving memorabilia will make up the unique sale. The star of the event is the 2nd oldest known US Navy diving helmet from July 1916. The helmet is the famed US Navy Mark V model. This helmet is actually a prototype of the model that would go on to be used by the US Navy until the mid-1980s. Also in the same sale is a rare Mark V “Widow Maker” helmet known for being feared by many divers for its dangerous reputation. A Mark V helmet etched with its history from Pearl Harbor and use on the USS Arizona in 1943 is an especially interesting example.

Also included in the auction are personal items from one of the first 100 US Navy Seals. His 1964 Rolex Submariner watch and 1943 diving helmet are just two of the special items that belonged to him. While unrelated but just as special, a diving helmet made in 1900 that helped construct the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco with photographic proof will be sold!

The rest of the auction will feature a selection of antique copper & brass diving helmets. Some of the helmets are a Miller Dunn Divinhood Style style 3, helmets by Morse, Schrader, and international helmets from the UK,  Russia, and Japan. Helmets made during the second half of the 20th Century include a Kirby Morgan and Aquadyne helmets. Many other unique pieces of diving equipment and memorabilia will be offered, all selling at no reserve.
