Luxury Liveaboard Socorro Vortex Runs Aground in Revillagigedo Archipelago

We are receiving reports that the luxury liveaboard, Socorro Vortex has run aground in the Socorro Islands in the Revillagigedo Archipelago, about 800 kilometers west of the Mexican port of Manzanillo.

According to AP, there were 14 passengers passengers onboard, seven American, two British, three Belgians, one Irish and one from New Zealand, and 11 crew members, including eight Mexicans, one English and two Italians. No serious injuries have been reported.

A guest onboard, Marissa Eckert posted to Facebook “At 2am our Liveaboard crashed into socorro island. We were all able to evacuate into the life boat with minimal injuries. We are all alive. But we all lost almost all of our personal belongings”.

According to the Pacific Fleet website, “Vortex Liveaboard is a 140 feet former Canadian Coast Guard vessel built for adventure and hardcore worldwide expeditions”.
