There are thousands of unexploded items from the Second World War around the country.

The US Embassy says the team has gained an incredible capacity to recognise, remove, and reduce the impact of explosive remnants of war.

It says in 2013, the team destroyed over 10,000 explosive remnants.

It says one motivation of the clearance is to prevent “fish-bombing”, whereby some fishermen use the explosives to catch fish – an action which harms the environment and threatens their wellbeing.
