Divers invited to help shape a new free app designed to become the “AllTrails for diving” ahead of its official August launch
Scuba divers can now get an early look at a new app aiming to bring every stage of the diving experience into one place, as Divemates opens its public beta for both iOS and Android devices.
Described by its creator as the “AllTrails for diving,” Divemates has been designed to help divers discover dive sites, find dive centres, identify marine life and keep a digital logbook—all within a single free application.
The app is currently in public beta, giving divers around the world an opportunity to explore its features, provide feedback and help refine the platform before its full public release in August 2026.
A Global Diving Database
Even in beta, Divemates launches with an extensive worldwide catalogue featuring:
- Nearly 10,000 dive sites
- More than 16,000 dive shops and guides
- Close to 12,000 marine species
- Coverage across more than 140 countries
Users can browse destinations, explore site information, discover which marine life they’re likely to encounter and identify local dive operators serving each location.
Marine species information is attributed to the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS), providing an authoritative scientific taxonomy.
More Than a Digital Logbook
Alongside trip planning, Divemates includes a fully featured dive logbook that works completely offline, allowing divers to record dives from liveaboards and remote destinations without an internet connection. Entries automatically synchronise once users reconnect.
As dives accumulate, the app builds a personal Dive Passport, tracking:
- Total dives
- Bottom time
- Maximum depth
- Countries explored
- Personal diving milestones
Built by a Diver
Divemates was created by lifelong diver David Elsonbaty, who has been developing iOS applications since 2012. After building apps featured by Apple and working as a software engineer at both Twitter and Meta, he set out to solve a problem he had experienced on countless dive trips.

Join the Beta
The public beta is now open on both iOS and Android, allowing divers to experience the app before its official launch later this summer.
