A scuba diving trip in the Florida Keys has ended in tragedy after an Indian tourist died following an incident at one of the region’s most popular reef sites.
According to a report by the Miami Herald, citing the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, 43-year-old Abhinav Lamba was found in distress underwater while diving at Molasses Reef off Key Largo.
Authorities said Lamba was brought to the surface where CPR was initiated before he was transported to hospital. Despite those efforts, he was later pronounced dead.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that foul play is not suspected, and the incident remains under investigation.
Molasses Reef is widely regarded as one of the most accessible and frequently dived reefs in the Florida Keys, known for its relatively shallow depths, clear visibility, and steady boat traffic from local dive operators. Initial reports indicate the dive took place at around 25 feet, a depth typically considered suitable for a wide range of experience levels.
At this stage, no further details have been released regarding the circumstances leading to the incident, including whether any medical factors or equipment-related issues may have been involved.
As with many early-stage incident reports, details remain limited and may develop as authorities complete their investigation.
Incidents at shallow reef sites are uncommon but not unheard of, and they often highlight the importance of monitoring personal limits, maintaining close buddy awareness, and responding quickly to signs of distress underwater.
Further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
