Diver & explorer, Jill Heinerth, will share her experiences of diving recording Mayan ruins, swimming under an Antarctic iceberg and more.
Jill Heinerth is a pioneering Canadian cave diver, underwater explorer, writer, photographer and filmmaker. Over three decades of pushing the boundaries of human exploration, she has dived deeper into underwater caves than any woman in history, mapped the interior of Antarctic icebergs, created the first 3D map of an underwater cave, survived the calving of an Antarctic iceberg while filming inside its frozen chambers, and most recently, helped discover the wreckage of Shackleton’s Quest in the icy depths of the Labrador Sea.
This groundbreaking work has earned Jill the Royal Canadian Geographical Society’s Sir Christopher Ondaatje Medal for Exploration, Canada’s prestigious Polar Medal, and recognition as a Fellow of the International Scuba Divers Hall of Fame.
Jill’s remarkable journey is captured in the award-winning documentary Diving Into The Darkness, which won the feature documentary award at the 2024 Santa Barbara International Film Festival, and her memoir of the same name.
On Saturday 14th March, join us live at The Andrew in Picton, where Jill Heinerth will share stories from the edge of human exploration—of diving into darkness, confronting mortality in flooded mines and ice caves, and what these hidden worlds reveal about our fragile planet. This is a rare opportunity to hear from one of Canada’s greatest living explorers about a life spent going where few dare follow.
