If you’re dreaming of diving with manta rays in the Maldives, this is the adventure for you. Join Euro-Divers Meeru on a full-day diving trip to explore some of the best dive sites in North Malé Atoll—featuring stunning coral reefs, exciting marine life, and the unforgettable experience of swimming with manta rays.
Morning Departure
The adventure begins at 8:15 a.m. as we gather on the boat, greeted with smiles and a warm welcome. We set up our gear and set off on a 1.5-hour scenic journey to our first dive site. Settle in with a hot coffee or tea and take in the endless blues of the Indian Ocean – this is where the excitement begins.
Dive 1: Lankan Manta Point – A Dance with Giants
Our first stop is Lankan Manta Point, a renowned manta ray cleaning station of North Malé Atoll. From May to November, this site comes alive with graceful giants gliding through the water.
Around 12 meters, a huge coral block serves as a natural “spa” where cleaner wrasse pampers the manta rays. Watching them circle effortlessly, lining up for their turn, is mesmerising. And on those lucky days, they might put on a show for the entire dive. But the magic doesn’t stop there—other than manta rays, keep an eye out for tuna, trevally, white-tip reef sharks, whip-tailed rays, eagle rays, and even hawksbill turtles gliding through the reef.
After the dive, we relax on the boat with snacks and drinks while heading to the next dive site. It’s the perfect time to chat, enjoy the view, and reminisce about the manta magic we just saw.
Dive 2: Aquarium – True to Its Name
Aquarium is just as amazing as its name suggests—packed with marine life and colourful corals, located where the outer reef of Lohifushi island curves into a southern channel, it’s a thrilling dive whether the current flows in or out.
When the current flows outwards, we start the dive in the channel and drift along a steep wall with beautiful overhangs covered in sea whips and gorgonians.
If the current is coming in, we begin at the corner where visibility is often crystal clear. This is where white-tip reef sharks and eagle rays love to gather, enjoying the current flow. No matter the direction, this site is full of action and beauty—one of those dives you’ll always remember.
Dive sites may vary depending on sea conditions or group preferences.
Dive 3: Stairs – A Gentle Finale
Our final dive is usually at Stairs—a peaceful, shallow site with stunning coral terraces that look like steps leading into the blue. It’s the perfect way to end the day. Keep your eyes peeled for blue-striped snappers, squirrelfish, sweetlips, and sneaky moray eels tucked under coral ledges. You might also spot stingrays gliding by, white-tip reef sharks cruising the reef, and turtles making a slow, graceful appearance.
We return to Meeru around 4:00 p.m. with stories to tell, photos to share, and memories that will last a lifetime.
