Diver Death in Tobermory

A Michigan man identified as 66 year old Michael Maxwell of Southfield, Michigan USA, has died while scuba diving at Tobermory. Maxwell was with a group of divers associated with a Michigan scuba diving club. They had been diving the Niagara II Shipwreck, a popular dive shipwreck, in Georgian Bay.

Bruce Peninsula OPP were contacted August 20 around 10 am. Maxwell was unresponsive on board the RCC Trenton in Big Tub Harbour, at Tobermory.

Maxwell was taken to the Tobermory Medical Centre where he was pronounced deceased. According to the OPP he was ascending from his dive and went into medical distress. EMS RCC from Trenton and the Grey-Bruce Paramedic assisted at the scene. An autopsy has been performed to determine the cause of death.
