Ocean Quest takes you to underwater world of shipwrecks, mines

Ocean Quest Adventures offers another reason for divers to go deep. As well as traditional dives to see shipwrecks, its Minequest option enables scuba enthusiasts to visit abandoned underwater mines that were decommissioned and flooded in the 1960’s. These mines have not been seen since then.

Ocean Quest owner Rick Stanley says his company provides some of the best cold-water diving in the world. With Ocean Quest based at Conception Bay, Newfoundland, it has access to the nearby Bell Island shipwrecks. “These shipwrecks give divers a glimpse into the design and final resting place of numerous Second World War vessels, as well as the vibrant sea life that now calls these wrecks home.”

The company also has boat tours for those who want to see ocean life, such as whales. Stanley says his tours have been recognized by the government of Canada as a “Canadian Signature Experience.” They offer guests “an opportunity to immerse themselves in nature like they’ve never experienced before. Whether it is snorkelling with whales, kayaking the maze of sea caves of Bell Island, or drinking ice off a 10,000-year-old iceberg, we will introduce you to a side of nature that you have never seen before.”

Stanley says persons wanting to book a tour for 2017 s can contact him by email by calling 1-709-722-7234. You can get 2016 prices if you book in advance and make a 50 per cent down payment by Jan. 1.

As a Newfoundlander would say, “Giv’r Till ya Shiv’r.”
