Sharks in Brazil are being pushed closer to extinction, and most people don’t even realize it.
Shark Angels and Sea Shepherd Brazil are asking people around the world to take action and help stop shark meat from being served in various public institutions across Brazil.

This is a real chance to create change. Sharks cannot speak for themselves, but we can be their voices.
Let’s protect them together.
Shark meat is often sold under the name “cação,” so many people don’t even know they are eating sharks. It has been found in schools, hospitals, and other public spaces because it is cheaper than other types of seafood.
But the real cost is a lot higher.
Many of these sharks are endangered, and removing them from the ocean affects entire ecosystems. Shark meat can also contain high levels of mercury and other toxic metals, which can harm human health, especially in children.
This is why action is needed now.
We are calling on Brazilian authorities, including ANVISA, Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change, and IBAMA, to stop serving shark meat in public institutions, improve labeling, and better protect endangered species.
About Shark Angels
Since 2007, Shark Angels has united a global community to protect sharks and our oceans by transforming fear into fascination and passion into action. Through education, science, and hands-on mentorship, we equip college students and emerging marine scientists with the tools they need to become powerful ocean advocates. By advancing legislation, promoting responsible shark diving, and inspiring public engagement, we’re building a future where sharks—and the ecosystems that depend on them—can thrive.
