A North Texas family is calling for accountability following the death of their 12-year-old daughter, Dylan Sophia Harrison, during a scuba certification class at The Scuba Ranch in Terrell, according to a report by FOX 4 News Dallas Fort Worth.
Attorney David Concannon, representing the family pro bono, told FOX 4 that key dive computer data from Dylan, her instructor, and the dive master were never analyzed by law enforcement, and that one of the devices is now reported missing. The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the incident remains an open criminal investigation.
The incident occurred on August 16, 2025, during what was meant to be Dylan’s final training dive. She was pronounced dead after being recovered from 42 feet of water. The class was operated by Scuba Toys, which rents space at The Scuba Ranch; both the operator and the instructor have declined to comment publicly.
Concannon said the dive computer data could clarify the sequence of events leading to Dylan’s death. “That evidence has been in the presence of law enforcement since the moment she was recovered, but it hasn’t been analyzed,” he told FOX 4.

DCBC diver with over 1000 hours commercially and many more recreational and unlogged. That being said, I feel comfortable in the water and at depth. For every experienced diver, you know that complacency is the deadliest thing that you can take with you in the water on any dive. The very second you think all is good is when all goes to Hell. I am also a father of a beautiful 6YO and she will not be diving until she is 18 and I no longer have a say. But I will warn her until the day she dies about what can happen down there. It truly is a different world and if and WHEN something goes wrong, it’s just you to figure it out. No one is coming!! Spoiler alert: your “stand by/ rescue diver” is more afraid than you are. Better chance of getting rescued by a Mermaid. I pray for this family I can’t even imagine what they must be going through
