The diver who died earlier this week at Lower Hutt’s Lowry Bay has been named as 46-year-old Wellington real estate agent Chiu Minh Looc, also known as Jack.
Looc was well-known among friends and the wider community for his enthusiasm for scuba diving and his love of sharing freshly caught seafood. He often posted images of his culinary creations on social media, reflecting his passion for food and cooking.
Friends described Looc as determined, hardworking, and generous, with a warm sense of humour. He was an experienced diver who had undergone extensive training and regularly dived with friends in the Wellington area.
Colleagues at Ray White Johnsonville said Looc worked closely with Wellington’s Chinese community and was always willing to share his expertise. His sudden passing has left his wife, two children, and two brothers in shock.
Police confirmed that Looc failed to return from a dive, with his belongings still in his car when he was found. Investigations into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
