According to the OPP (Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry Detachment), the body of a scuba diver who went missing near the Long Sault Parkway, west of Cornwall, has been recovered.
This marks the second diving-related fatality in Eastern Ontario this month. The first occurred in Kingston on April 13, 2025, and the second in Cornwall, roughly a two-hour drive away.
On April 23, 2025, four divers entered Lock 21; however, only three resurfaced. The body of the missing diver, a 61-year-old man, was located late in the morning on April 24, 2025. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No further details have been released at this time.
The Long Sault Parkway
Located midway between Kingston and Montreal, a chain of eleven islands stretches across the St. Lawrence River, resembling a string of green jewels.
The Long Sault Parkway offers an ideal retreat at the river’s heart, featuring the largest public beach along the St. Lawrence corridor, Mille Roches Beach. Visitors can enjoy scenic bike trails, untouched nature paths, boat launches, picnic spots, scuba diving opportunities, and outstanding fishing. Hoople Creek Basin, in particular, stands out as one of the biggest natural pickerel hatcheries and premier fishing areas in both Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec.
