Missing Diver Found Deceased

Jeffery Scott Harris, a 47-year-old resident of Eugene, was discovered deceased at approximately 8:45 a.m. on Monday following his disappearance while scuba diving in the Umpqua River.

Reports of a deceased individual on the shore near Sparrow Park Road prompted dispatchers to alert authorities. Responding to the scene, both the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police confirmed the identity of the body as Harris’.

Harris had ventured into the Umpqua River near the Pacific Ocean’s mouth in Winchester Bay around 12:30 p.m. on January 28th for a scuba diving excursion. Despite his prior diving experience, Harris failed to return, leading to the activation of emergency services.

The Douglas County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an investigation into the incident, and the deceased’s next of kin has been notified. Authorities from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office have stated that no foul play is suspected in the case.
