On 23 July 2020, Shearwater revealed the latest in their range of dive computers, the Peregrine.

Since its inception in 2004, Shearwater Research Inc. has been fuelled by its CEO, Bruce Partridge’s passion and vision. Bruce brings a unique perspective into the world of dive computers with a background in computer system design, embedded programming and advanced technical diving.

Equipped with the assumption that divers want a simple, intuitive user interface which was historically unavailable in dive computers and rebreather control systems, the earliest focus was on developing a user-sensitive menu structure. As an accomplished rebreather and open circuit professional diver, Bruce clearly recognized the need for fair options for divers, needing as few buttons as possible, especially during stressful underwater situations.

Their computers are particularly easy for divers to use for all levels of divers, and they have a reputation for being reliable, user friendly and easy to read underwater. Shearwater computers are built to enhance the divers experience.

Shearwater is located in Richmond, British Columbia.

The technological modes, digital compass, and functions of air integration have been removed but the fundamental working of Shearwater is still in place. Firmware is based on the Perdix three-gas nitrox recreational mode, adding an even simpler single-gas mode to that.
