Sharks Need Our Help: Support Bill S-238

Sharks need your help. Shark populations have declined and one of the greatest threats they face is the demand for their fins. While shark finning is illegal in Canadian waters, we still import shark fins from other countries, including fins of several endangered and threatened sharks — such as whale sharks, great hammerhead sharks and shortfin mako sharks.

But, now, there’s hope to end this cruel trade once and for all. Bill S-238 will be introduced in the House of Commons on Wednesday. The Bill is in the final stages before becoming a law, having already passed the Senate last fall.

You can help by contacting your local Member of Parliament and urging them to support ending the cruel shark fin trade in Canada.

We need MPs to hear from their community on this issue so that when the Bill is voted on in the House of Commons they will be compelled to protect sharks. It will only take a few minutes. Sharks can’t wait any longer.

Why is this so important? Every year, up to 73 million sharks end up in the global fin trade, many of which are endangered species. As an apex predator, sharks are essential to healthy ecosystems.

We’re so close! Join us in urging for the passage of a national #FinBanNow! Over 230,000 people have taken a stand by signing our national petition and now your local MP needs to hear from you too.

It’s more important than ever to ensure Bill S-238 passes the House of Commons: add your name now to urge your local MP to end the cruel shark fin trade.

Sharks are depending on us to stand up for their protection, don’t let them down.
