Apeks has introduced the RK4, a new technical diving fin designed to combine precise manoeuvrability, controlled propulsion and practical features for divers operating in demanding underwater environments. The fin will be presented to the North American diving industry at DEMA Show 2026 in New Orleans.
Announced by HEAD Watersports on 19 October, the RK4 is intended for technical divers who rely on accurate fin movements, particularly in environments where disturbing sediment or making unnecessary contact with the surroundings can create additional challenges.
Designed for Precision Underwater
A central focus of the RK4 is controlled movement rather than simply producing maximum propulsion.
According to Apeks, the fin has been engineered to support small, accurate movements in confined spaces while reducing the disturbance of sand and silt.
That emphasis is particularly relevant to divers using frog kicks and other controlled finning techniques in wrecks, caves and similar environments. Maintaining position and minimising sediment disturbance can be important for protecting visibility and avoiding unnecessary contact with the environment.
Apeks also says the RK4 has been developed to provide effective propulsion during both the upstroke and downstroke, with the aim of improving movement efficiency and reducing the effort required underwater.
These performance characteristics have been described by the manufacturer and have not been independently evaluated by The Scuba News.
Adjustable for Wetsuit and Drysuit Diving
The RK4 incorporates two adjustment points and stainless-steel spring straps, allowing divers to adapt the fit when changing between wetsuit boots and drysuit footwear.
Integrated stainless-steel buckles are designed to provide a streamlined attachment arrangement while reducing potential snag points.
The adjustable configuration may be particularly useful for divers who use different exposure protection systems throughout the year or regularly move between recreational and technical diving environments.
Apeks has also designed the fin to be relatively straightforward to put on and remove while wearing gloves, an important consideration when working with bulky equipment or in colder water.
One-Piece Rubber Construction
The RK4 uses a one-piece rubber construction intended to provide durability in demanding diving conditions.
Apeks also highlights the potential end-of-life recycling advantages of the single-material design.
However, the practical recyclability of the fins will depend on the collection and processing facilities available to owners. No specific recycling or take-back programme was identified in the launch announcement.
The RK4 will be offered in three colours: Black, White and Orange.
North American availability has been described as coming soon, although the manufacturer has not provided a confirmed retail launch date or regional pricing in the announcement.
Making Its North American Debut at DEMA 2026
Divers and industry professionals attending DEMA Show 2026 will have an opportunity to examine the RK4 at the HEAD Watersports stand.
The trade show takes place from 3 to 6 November at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Apeks will be exhibiting at HEAD Watersports Booth #1629, where visitors can see the new fin and learn more about the company’s equipment developments.
The RK4 joins the expanding selection of specialist diving equipment being introduced to the industry ahead of this year’s show, with manufacturers continuing to refine equipment for technical, overhead-environment and advanced recreational applications.
Further announcements and industry developments from New Orleans will be included in The Scuba News DEMA 2026 coverage.
