One thing I’ve learned about myself over the years is that what makes a dive feel relaxed and enjoyable has a lot less to do with conditions, and a lot more to do with people and pace.
For me, I’m at my best when I’m diving with people I trust, people I know, and people I genuinely vibe with. Insta-buddies have never really worked out for me, which is probably one of the reasons I eventually got my solo card. It’s not about avoiding people, it’s about creating the kind of headspace where I can actually enjoy the dive.
Same thing with being rushed. I get ready pretty quickly on my own, but when someone adds that extra layer of hurry, it actually makes me less relaxed and more anxious.
Diving is supposed to feel calm and intentional, not like you’re late for a flight.
So I’m curious…
What makes a dive feel relaxed and enjoyable for you versus stressful?
Not talking conditions. More the human side of it.
