DESCRIPTION:Economist Impact\, with the support of official host The Nippon Foundation\, successfully hosted the 12th World Ocean Summit in Tokyo in 2025.  With over 14\,000 islands\, 30\,000km of coastline and a blue economy that is forecasted to reach 28 trillion yen by 2030\, Japan as a maritime nation offered a rich cultural and historical perspective. \nThe summit convened the widest cross-section of the ocean community from business and finance to government\, national and international policy-makers\, civil society and academia. Designed to instigate action to develop the sustainable ocean economy\, the summit encouraged new partnerships across industries\, with NGOs\, scientists\, technology developers and investors. By bringing together all stakeholders in the ocean ecosystem\, the summit provided the perfect platform to inspire new synergies\, solutions and strategies on the track to meet the 2030 targets in UN SDG 14. \nThe 12th annual summit focused on the transition to a sustainable ocean economy\, ocean stewardship\, strategies to restore ocean health\, advancements in marine technology and collaborative efforts to address ocean pollution. There are over one hundred vendors of shark and ocean related merchandise\, including\, but not limited to jewelry\, art\, clothing\, & collectibles. Learn how you can enjoy the ocean even more with indoors scuba diving with professionals as well as other water sports. \nSharkCon is more than just a great time. It is an event dedicated to raising awareness about shark and ocean conservation\, as well as substainability. It raises money for ocean and shark conservation efforts\, which are undertaken by our partners at SharkCon. We want to ensure the health of the oceans for generations to come! All of this great SharkCon wonder is included in the price of admission. \nSharkCon has invited groups in the local community\, such as Tampa Bay Watch & Florida Fish and Wildlife\, as well as global organizations\, such as National Geographic and OCEARCH. The Forum also provides an opportunity for the public to provide input to the International Joint Commission\, who are tasked with advising the United States and Canada with respect to the implementation of the Agreement. \nThis year’s Forum holds special significance as it falls on the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement between Canada and the United States. We must protect the ocean. \nOur goal is to clean up the seabed of debris that is destroying the environment and the aesthetics of our coastline\, as well as to educate divers on how they can help by becoming involved in Project Aware. \nDo you want to become a Padi Certified Project Aware Diver or a Coral Reef Conservation Specialty Diver? Why not join our PADI Instructors on these dives and learn more about our oceans and how we can help? \nWe intend to have buddy groups collaborate and plan dives around Mill Cove wharf to remove debris. We will have all of the necessary equipment for the clean-up\, but divers are encouraged to bring their own catch-bags\, in the event that we run out of catch-bags. \nDetails\nDate: Saturday\, September 24\, 2022 \nTime: 9:30am to 2:30pm \nMeet At: East Coast Scuba & Watersports (1440 Bedford Hwy) for a briefing on the clean up and safety procedures.
