We all know of the lucrative trade in shark fins for the Chinese market, but did you know that there is also a great demand for shark fin soup in India? It certainly came as a surprise to me!

An article in the The Times of India states that it is not only sharks that are in danger in Indian waters but also rays which in some areas are also highly sought after.

A dried devil ray fin costs around Rs 10,000 per kilo (£100 GBP, $157 USD) and this can be obtained from catching just one ray!
